In doing my project the things I have researched are the different elements and principles of photography. Looked at different websites to confirm my findings but  one really helped me the most. This slideshow really helped me  learn a lot about photography. I further used this information in my own picture slideshow by stating the elements and principles I used.

Passion Project Week Three

This week for my passion project I actually started taking pictures! I went camping this weekend so I had a really good opportunity to get some nice nature shots. I used different perspectives to really make different elements in my picture pop. So I feel like i will have a good variety of perspectives and elements. I also took up close pictures and pictures of landscapes.

Some things that I still have to do are making my slideshow by downloading my pictures and writing the captions of the different elements of photography I used. I also am hoping to get a couple more pictures to put in my slideshow of different elements of nature.

Passion Project Week Two

         This week for my passion project I watched a video to show me something called the photography pyramid. The photography pyramid basically takes your light in your pictures and divides it into 3 categories.  If you take light out of one categories it automatically gives it to a different category. You must figure out which category needs what amount of light you need to take your specific picture.

         I have not started taking pictures yet but I do have future plans. First of all my family is going camping from may 27th-may 28th so I will have a really good chance to take different nature shots around the camp ground.  There also is a nature walk site near my house were my family takes my dogs on walks so that would be another good place to take some nature shots. Also we have flowers growing in my backyard so that would be another goof shot. So basically right now I am just planning out all my photos.

I'm very excited to take my photos and continue this great project.

Passion Project Week One

              My passion project is photography. I choose photography because I really enjoy taking  pictures and capturing moments. I also want use my pictures to make people really happy and smile. Especially people with struggling right now or people who have depression. The things I will most likely take picture of are scenery's, my dogs, and different elements of nature.

         To complete my passion project I will take different styles of photos from several perspectives to show how different elements of photography affect the different parts of the picture. Then I will present my photos in a slideshow or a photo album with a caption stating what I did to capture each picture. Before my final presentation I will need to learn how the elements of photography affect different pictures and I also need to learn how to master my dads camera. So far I have been researching the different elements of photography and learning about how they can make pictures better or worse.  I am very excited to continue with my project.

History Question

My question does not affect the children personally but it does there families. My question is when the children who went to residential schools had children of their own how did their experience affect their own children?

I read this story about a girl named Chartrand whose mother went to something similar to a residential school. The difference is it was just for the day and they went home at night. Chartrand said that she herself struggled with things like alcoholism. Her mother also struggled with things like alcohol. Chartrand grew up with her father and only found out about her mother's struggles when she studied it herself in university. Chartrand said that she plans to raise her daughter with the culture she herself was not raised with. This is an example of a second generation child who had troubles due to the residential schools.

The lady telling this story was telling us about when she was a child. Her mom and step dad both went to residential schools when they were younger. Since they were not aloud to do much of anything and they were very abusive to the children at the school, when the children who went to the school became adults they went a little crazy with freedom. Once they got home from work they went to the bar and got very drunk and were now abusive to their own children. I don’t think they meant to hurt their children but because of the residential school messing up their lives they drink to feel better which results in them hurting their children.

Now here is a different kind of story. The two stories before this were about the children who went to residential schools who had children of their own and how it affected their them. But this story is about a woman whose mother died at child birth. After that she was shipped off to a residential school where she was lonely her whole life. But she stated that she is no longer lonely because she has her sons. So this story is about where her children affected her not the other way around. They showed her what it feels like to love someone.

This question is one made up of different opinions and experiences. There is no definite answer to this question because of all these different experiences . Many stories I looked had a positive effect on their own children, some not so much. But one things for sure, the residentials schools did not just affect the child, they affected a family.

Russia's quality of life

The quality of living can greatly affect the overall lifestyle of a country and its citizens. Although there are many countries with an overall high quality of living, wealthy economy and political stability, there are always factors which decrease the quality of life. For example, Russia is a beautiful European country filled with amazing cuisine and gorgeous landscapes. Despite this, there are also some factors which should be taken into account when looking at the Russian quality of life.



Education: Russia has one of the most amazing mass education systems ever. Their system is similar to ours here in Canada yet has some major differences. All Children in Russia (boys and girls) must go to school from ages 6-15. 6-10 year old go to primary school and 11-15 year old go to senior school. When children are 15 years old they have a choice,they can either go to vocational school or a non-university institute. They usually do their choice of schooling until they are 17 or 18 years of age. Their schooling consists of 4 terms with vacations in between. Students usually attend four 40-45 minute classes each day. There school normally starts at 8:am and ends at 1 or 2 in the afternoon. Some of there classes are mandatory like Russian literature, Russian history, Russian language, world history, math, and science. There are also some specialized schools that focus on certain subjects. Like in Canada students must pay for university.

Jobs: Russia has many job opportunities, yet there are some careers which employ many people. An example is aircraft manufacturing. It gives around 355,300 people jobs. Another job is automobile production. That gives around 600,000 people employment. Finally the last job is in the defense industry. That gives 2-3 million people jobs in Russia. Russia's currency is the Russian ruble, it is a soft currency making it difficult for exchange. One Ruble is about 0.022 in Canadian dollars. The Russian GDP per capita is $14, 611.70 USD, However, what the average person makes in one month depends on their job. Normally it is around 4500/3000 rubles a month. Making Russia a lower to middle class economy.

Economy: In 2015 Russia had the 6th largest economy. However, There have been multiple terrorist attacks and they have restricted news. Meaning that what they hear from the news is what the government wants them to hear. Russia has many natural resources, holding around 30% of the available sources. Russia is very rich in mining and is actually the leading producer in minerals and gold. Russia is also the biggest diamond producer in  the world! In 2013 it was estimated that Russia produced over 33 million carats. Russia is also the leading exporter of natural gas. Russia's main export partners are the Netherlands, China, Germany, Italy, Turkey ,Belarus, and Japan.
Russia's main import partners are China, Germany, Italy, United states, and Belarus. Their main imports are oil, petroleum, and coal.

Healthcare: In Russia majority of the population is provided with free healthcare under medical insurance. In 2008 Russia employed 621,000 doctors and 1.3 million nurses. The number of doctors is 43.8 per 10,000 people but only 12.1 doctors in rural areas. Only about 5% of the population has health insurance.

 Russia has some qualities that would make it  a desirable place to work, live or vacation, such as their highly educated workforce, and their many tourist attractions. But there are also some negative factors which should be taken into consideration if planning on visiting Russia.For example, economically, there are many citizens who are living in poor conditions due to lack of job opportunities. There is also a high risk of terrorist attacks, as well as a reputation of political instability. On the corruption perception index of 2016 they scored a 29 out of a possible 100% in the stability of their country. TO put this into perspective, Canada scored an 82, and the US scored a 74. If this trend were to continue, Russia would likely experience a population decrease, due to their economy suffering. The money they make off of tourism would also decrease due to the high risk of travel, leading to a lower GDP. In conclusion Russia has many qualities which would make it a desirable place to visit, however they must continue to improve their political stability as well as their GDP per capita in order to make sure that their country only sees a positive change.

Why Is Harry Potter Such A Popular Book series?

Happiness can be found in the darkest of times if one only remembers to turn on the light”- Albus Dumbledore. Well if you're a Harry Potter fan this statement is about to be 100% correct. Harry Potter is one of the world’s most popular books series and there are many reasons why that is.

Harry Potter is full of many different levels of depth that make you feel more connected and close to the characters. A lot of people say the books are just for children but they actually deal with a lot of complex topics such as death, bullying, abuse, standing out, pain and suffering, etc.But these topics make the books even better because it adds more profoundness to the characters and lets you know more about who they are and how they are feeling. The series is also full of things like plot twists that make you can’t help but wonder what happens next and it gives the story so many wonderful layers. Also all these things are very well written which makes you actually feel something when things happen. But even though the series is full of depth the series also focuses on brighter, fun things.

Harry Potter is full of so much fun and fantasy that we just don't see here in our world which makes it more interesting to readers. There are so many wonderful spells to learn such as accio, wingardium leviosa, and expelliarmus. There are also many awesome creatures (like hippogriffs and thestrals), potions,(like polyjuice potion and liquid luck), and classes (like defense against the dark arts and herbology) in the Harry Potter world. The characters get to do so many cool things that it makes you want to do them which makes the books that much more enjoyable to read. Some examples are fighting bad guys, having magical duels, and riding magical creatures. So all these amazing things help you escape the dullness of the real world but even though both worlds are so different they also have some similarities.

Harry Potter's world is so different from our own but I think what a lot of people like about it is even though it's different it is still very relatable. As I said at the beginning the characters deal with a lot of complex topics but these matters are not so different from our own. Such as bullying, death, not having very much money, being different from everyone else, not always being right, betrayal, and many more. So even though their world is nothing like ours J.K Rowling is still able to make the characters relatable to us. The characters also have many different feelings similar to our own. Like hate, love, envy, despair, and pain. The author writes out these feelings so we the readers can feel what the characters feel and make connections as well. For example Voldemort envied anyone who had parents because he didn’t have any. Therefore I think relatability is the #1 reason why people love Harry Potter.

Harry Potter is a very successful franchise with about 15 billion dollars made in books and 7.7 billion dollars in movies. They also have their own theme park and musical. From the depth to the whimsy to the relatability, Harry Potter will probably always be one of the biggest book franchises ever made. No matter why or how you like it Hogwarts will always be there to bring us home.

Metacognition Reflection Question

1. What strategies did you use to improve your essay (besides having the teacher make suggestions and corrections)?  

The strategies I used to improve my essay are I read over my essay to make sure that every start of a sentence had a capital and every end of a sentence had a period. Then what I did was I went online and entered some of the basic words I had to make them more advanced and got even better words. Finally I got read it over a bunch of times so I knew what I had to correct.

2. What future steps will you take to improve as a writer?

The steps I will take are I will keep making many copies of each of my pieces so I can keep going through them and editing them. I will try to get lots of different people to read my pieces so I get many different opinions. I also will keep trying to find better words to improve my writing.
